Hox Gallery presents Mumby
MUMBY is a Congolese artist based between Antwerp and Paris, with painting as her primary medium. Her work explores identity and presence through the body, focusing on posture, gesture and the way space is claimed.
Act of Presence brings together a series of paintings shaped by the visual and social codes of La Sapologie. Through layered identities and lived experience, Mumby explores what it means to take up space, to exist without invitation, and to navigate visibility on one’s own terms.
In this body of work, La Sape becomes a language — one of presence, resistance, and self-definition. Focusing on moments of tension, pause, and quiet assertion, the paintings reflect on how the body holds power, where visibility begins, and how showing up can be both subtle and commanding.
Displayed in our lobby until May 2026. Don’t miss it.
